Why no native backward tracking in PRT? #2791

backward particle tracking is commonly used to delineate capture areas for wells. Previous versions of MODPATH all had backward tracking built in. In my experience, backward particle tracking is more commonly used than forward. To simulate backward tracking in PRT, you need to reverse the budget and heads file (flopy utilities make this easy) and account reversal of the timing when considering release times and when processing the results. Though its not that challenging to get this work, it is counterintuitive and introduces opportunities for error. Is including native backward tracking in the works or is not including this a conscious decision for some reason? |
