akmods wl fails freqently

I have enabled with akmods the wl module. It used to work, but recently the build fails frequently due to a kernel version mismatch.
But I didn't really understand, what the reason is for this mismatch and what I can do to fix it or what needs to be done.

this isn’t a bad wl recipe - it’s a kernel skew between your base image and the akmods RPMs the module tries to install.

from your log:

• base (@System) is still on kernel-*-7.1.13-200.fc44
• kmod-wl-...fc44 from akmods wants kernel-uname-r = 7.2.5-200.fc44
• dnf then refuses to pull the newer kernel-core / kernel-modules-core alongside the older ones already in the image → conflicting requests

that’s why it “fails frequently” with image-version: latest on ghcr.io/ublue-os/bluefin-dx: when Universal Blue’s published base lags (or leads) the akmods build for a bit, every blue-build run that installs wl can trip this. Blue-Build documents the same depsolve pattern under Outdated akmods compared to the current kernel version fail the build: wait for the upstream base/akmods pair to line up again.

what to do

1. Short term: re-run the workflow after bluefin-dx:latest (and the matching akmods layer) have both moved onto the same uname-r. no recipe change required when they match.
2. More stable: stop floating on latest while you need wl. pin image-version to a Fedora stream / digest you know builds clean (or the last green tag), then bump intentionally.
3. Unblock a green build now: temporarily remove wl from recipes/driver.yaml until the kernels align, then add it back.

you do not need to hand-install a different kernel inside the Containerfile to “fix” the conflict - the akmods module expects the base image kernel and the kmod RPM to already agree.

if a re-run still fails after base has clearly moved to 7.2.5-200.fc44 (or whatever kmod-wl asks for), paste a fresh failing job URL and we can check whether the wrong akmods base/tag is being selected.
