Think it would be nice to have some kind of toggling. perhaps with setting in backend to decide what view.

Thanks for the proof of concept. I think the idea is useful and technically viable, but I would treat it as a new feature for the new versions.

Adding table/cards/rows switching should probably be done with separate layouts or partials, not by making the current table template more complex.

A menu option for the default display mode would be a good first step. A frontend toggle could be added later, but it would need extra work for state handling, responsive behaviour and testing.

For the current beta/RC phase I would not include this, because it changes the rendering structure and needs broader visual testing. It is a good candidate for a future version.
