The pen is on the table.

On July 2, 2026 — 250 years after the vote for American independence — we published
a call to draft a Declaration of Internet Independence. Not a finished document:
a working draft, and an open invitation to write it together.

This is the drafting table. Everything in this repository is provisional — the
Declaration, the six essays, the founding brief, even the hard questions — and
Discussions is where the arguing happens.

What belongs here:

• Argue with the drafts. Take on any claim in any document — the economics, the
  architecture, the personhood gate, a single sentence that rings false. The strongest
  objection is the most useful contribution.
• Propose what's missing. An idea, a grievance, a precedent we've overlooked, a
  hard question we haven't named.
• Bring your community. The exit from the old internet is communal — a congregation,
  a guild, a fandom, a town. If you'd help yours gather, start a thread.
• Ask anything. There are no naive questions about a thing this unfinished.

When you're ready to change the text itself, open a pull request — the smallest
useful edit is welcome. And if the only line you want to add is your name, that counts
too: wetheusers.ai.

One house rule, and it's the whole constitution of this space: aim hard at the drafts,
and gently at the people. Candor is the brand; contempt isn't.
