[Translation] Does the Russian translation sound right to you? | Русский: Нужна помощь #60
Description
Russian is fully translated, and nobody who speaks Russian has ever read it.
All 116 strings are present, so this one needs checking rather than
finishing. The maintainer only speaks English and cannot tell whether the
result sounds like something a person would say.
What to look for
- Words that are technically correct but that no native speaker would use
- Video editing terms: clip, render, timeline, caption, watermark. These often
have an established word among editors that is not the dictionary one - The same English word translated three different ways on three screens
- Text that outgrows its button
- A label that does not match what the button actually does
Reporting
Current: [what the app says now]
Suggested: [what it should say]
Why: [one line]
One string is worth reporting. So is a hundred.
To fix it yourself: edit ui/src/renderer/src/locales/ru.json and open a
pull request mentioning this issue. Change only that file.

Optional: does the AI work in Russian?
Much bigger job, entirely optional. Run a video naturally spoken in Russian and
say whether transcription got the words right, whether the clips chosen made
sense, and whether the generated titles came out in Russian rather than English.
Two caveats before you spend time: only gemma:7b, gemma3:4b and
gemma3:12b have ever been tested, so anything else is unmeasured rather than
endorsed (see #38). And AI dubbing cannot be tested from an installed copy at
all, because the speech engine is not bundled.
Русский
Разработчик этого приложения говорит только по-английски и не может оценить, звучит ли русский перевод естественно и используются ли принятые в видеомонтаже термины.
Если фраза понятна, но так никто не говорит, всё равно сообщите об этом. Достаточно комментария с текущим и правильным вариантом; pull request не обязателен.

Pull requests are welcome
Spotting the problem is the hard part, and if you can spot it you can almost
certainly fix it. Edit ui/src/renderer/src/locales/ru.json, change only
that file, and open a pull request that mentions this issue.
It is a good first pull request: one file, no build to set up, no code to
understand, and quick to review. If it is your first contribution to anything,
that is fine — say so and I will help.
Commenting is still a complete contribution if you would rather not. Both are
genuinely useful.

If you feel like doing any fixes on mistakes you see feel free to submit a fork and pull request and I can approve them.

It seems that translation would rather be half-completed since many UI features were added(?) and translation falls back to eng.
Complete and correct the Russian translation (#66)
ColinGPT9 commentedon Aug 15, 2026
Russian has been rewritten and completed by @4nmus in #66, now merged. That pull request linked #63 (the index) rather than this issue, so it did not show up here.
He reported the existing translation read unnaturally to a native speaker, which is what this issue was asking. He also found something the issue did not: Russian was listed as one of the nine complete locales and was not. The app has 208 translatable strings, ru.json covered 116, so 92 were falling back to English while the file looked finished. He translated all 92 and corrected 56 of the existing lines.
Keeping this open. Complete is not the same as reviewed, and one person's translation deserves the same second pair of eyes any other contribution would get. If you read Russian, the useful checks now are:
Reporting one wrong word is still a complete contribution.
