nvim-setup

Personal Neovim configuration focused on viewing code and files and editing prompts.

Prerequisites

• Neovim >= 0.10 (uses vim.loader, snacks.nvim, blink.cmp)
• git — plugin management
• ripgrep (rg) — grep provider
• fd — recursive fuzzy path completion
• cargo (Rust) — blink.cmp build
• xclip (WSL only) — clipboard sync

Optional

• Python >= 3.10 + curl + llama-server in PATH + systemd (Linux) — built-in AI translation (<leader>at / <leader>aT)
• macism — auto IME switch on macOS
• MinGW-w64 or Visual Studio C++ — build the Windows/WSL IME helper (scripts/ime/README.md)

Install

Open Neovim — lazy.nvim bootstraps itself and installs all plugins on first run. Treesitter core parsers install automatically.

<leader>w is a Normal-mode waiting prefix backed by which-key; press a window command key after it to run the corresponding <C-w> command.

Translation

Built-in AI translation using a local llama.cpp server with the Hy-MT2 model. Systemd owns the server lifecycle; Neovim only checks and uses its HTTP API.

Setup (Linux/systemd)

Install llama-server with the machine's package manager and ensure this succeeds in your shell:

which llama-server

Then run:

./scripts/llama-translate.sh

The setup script downloads Hy-MT2-1.8B-Q4_K_M.gguf to ~/models/, discovers the machine-specific llama-server path with which, and installs /etc/systemd/system/llama-server.service. The service is enabled at boot, binds only to 127.0.0.1:9999, restarts after any unexpected exit with a 60-second delay and no start-rate limit, and unloads the model after 10 idle minutes.

To synchronize another machine after updating this repository, run the same setup command there. The installer renders that machine's username, home, and package-manager binary path and does not restart an unchanged healthy service.

If Neovim reports that the service is unavailable, inspect systemd; Neovim never starts or restarts llama-server itself.

Usage

• <leader>at — translate buffer/selection to a side-panel (scratch buffer)
• <leader>aT — translate and replace buffer/selection in-place

Prompts for target language (en/zh). The model idle-unloads after 10 minutes.

Platform Notes

WSL

Clipboard uses win32yank.exe when available, so yanks go to the Windows clipboard directly. Install it in Windows if needed:

scoop install win32yank

If win32yank.exe is unavailable, the configuration falls back to xclip (which only guarantees WSL/X11 clipboard integration):

Input method auto-switching uses the native helper in scripts/ime/ime.exe. Neovim starts it as a background server, so WSL's Windows-process startup cost is paid only once. On leaving Insert mode it switches the active IME to English; when entering Insert mode it restores the previous mode. Build instructions are in scripts/ime/README.md.

macOS

Input method auto-switching: switches to ABC layout on leaving insert mode, restores previous layout on entering. Requires macism:

SSH

Uses OSC 52 for clipboard when in SSH sessions — no extra setup needed.

Path Completion

The built-in Blink path provider is replaced with a recursive fd-backed provider. Typing /tfl searches descendants of the current working directory and lets Blink fuzzy-match paths such as src/deep/target_file.lua; accepted bare-root results use the valid relative form ./src/deep/target_file.lua. Typing an explicit directory such as src/deep/tfl limits the search to that directory. The initial / still shows top-level entries.

Pi prompt buffers keep their separate @ path and /skill completion behavior; @tfl also searches descendants and inserts the accepted path with the @ marker. File arguments to :e and :vs use the same fuzzy path source (for example, :e tfl).

Customization

• .nvim.lua or .nvimrc in any project directory is auto-loaded (exrc = true)
• Add new lazy plugin specs under lua/plugins/ — imported via { import = "plugins" }
