Temporal Demo

Order processing demo using FastAPI, Temporal, and PostgreSQL.

Setup

Install dependencies

uv sync

Start infrastructure

docker compose up -d

Run database migrations

alembic upgrade head

Start the application

uvicorn app:get_app --factory

Workflows

Workflows and activities are located in app/infrastructure/workflows/:

• order.py — NewOrderWorkflow with wait_for_condition and send_confirmation activities
• print_every_minute.py — PrintEveryMinuteWorkflow scheduled to run every minute via Temporal Schedules
• worker.py — Temporal worker setup, task queue: new-orders

The worker starts automatically with the application on startup. On first start, start_schedules() registers the print-every-minute schedule in Temporal (idempotent and safe to restart).
