Enjoyed finding ChainCheck - exactly the audience note: I run livetrafficcam.com, a directory of official DOT traffic cameras with per-camera liveness checking, and it has a free public JSON API that covers the Sierra passes. If a live-camera panel fits the app, this returns the Donner Pass cameras with verified live status:
curl "https://livetrafficcam.com/api/cams.json?entity=donner-pass"
Each camera has lat/lng, route, live_status (from real HTTP checks, so you can skip dead feeds), official_url, and Caltrans attribution. Also works per state (?state=CA, capped at 200 rows) and for echo-summit and other pass slugs. No auth, no key; docs: https://bzsasson.github.io/traffic-camera-sources/api.html - human version of the pass at https://livetrafficcam.com/traffic-cameras/california/donner-pass/
No obligation at all - closing this is a fine answer. Happy to add anything that would make it more useful (attribution requirements are just "keep the agency credit line").
