The Sun Standard is a research project exploring how Bitcoin mining can integrate with renewable energy systems—particularly solar—to support a more efficient and circular energy economy.
This repository contains research, methodology, and supporting materials for the Sun Standard framework, which proposes:
- Aligning Bitcoin mining with solar emergy production
- Reducing energy waste through load balancing
- Extending hardware lifecycle via circular economy principles
- Rethinking mining as an energy coordination tool, not just computation
Modern economies measure value almost exclusively through human utility—what people desire, consume, or are willing to pay for.
But this ignores a deeper layer of reality.
All production, computation, and infrastructure are bound by the laws of physics. Every system carries an irreducible thermodynamic cost—not only in immediate energy use, but in the total emergy embodied across its lifecycle.
The Sun Standard asserts that value should not be defined by human preference alone, but by the total solar emergy required to produce and sustain it.
Bitcoin mining, when aligned with solar emergy flows, reveals this connection:
- Energy becomes traceable to its origin
- Emergy becomes the measure of real cost
- Computation becomes a carrier of thermodynamic value
- A satoshi becomes a unit anchored in physical reality
In this model, value emerges from the intersection of:
- Subjective demand (what humans want)
- Objective emergy cost (what reality has already paid)
This reframes Bitcoin:
Not just as digital scarcity,
but as a system capable of expressing thermodynamic truth.
This is not just an optimization of energy systems.
It is a shift toward an economy grounded in emergy, transparency, and physical reality.
