Summary

  • Stop hardcoding changelog release count — assert newest release matches apps/api/package.json version.
  • Add [skip ci] to release commits; skip ci-api / ci-web on release pushes.
  • Publish a GitHub Release per package tag (gh release create --generate-notes) after release.
  • Trigger production deploys on package tag push (@poc-plattform-kit/api@*, etc.) instead of manual dispatch from release.yml.
  • Align release.yml loop guard with InkAds: github.actor != github-actions[bot] plus message/[skip ci] checks.

Test plan

  • node --test scripts/release-changed.test.mjs
  • pnpm --filter @poc-plattform-kit/api test -- changelog/changelog.controller.spec.ts
  • CI green on PR
  • After merge: merge a feature to main, confirm release workflow bumps + tags + GitHub Release
  • Confirm deploy-api / deploy-web run on tag push (not manual dispatch)

Preview scenarios: not-applicable - release/CI workflow and test-only changes

Summary by Sourcery

Align release automation around skipped-CI release commits, package tags, GitHub Releases, and tag-triggered production deployments.

New Features:

  • Publish a GitHub Release with generated notes for every package tag produced by the release workflow.

Bug Fixes:

  • Keep changelog tests aligned with the current package versions and release data instead of hardcoded counts and content.

Enhancements:

  • Prevent release commits from rerunning API and web CI jobs.
  • Trigger production API, web, and marketing deployments from their package tag pushes rather than release workflow dispatches.
  • Add release workflow safeguards for automation-generated and skipped-CI commits.

CI:

  • Update CI and release workflow tests to verify skipped release commits, tag-based deployments, and GitHub Release creation.

Deployment:

  • Update production deployment documentation and workflows to use package tags as release triggers while retaining manual dispatch support.

Documentation:

  • Document the revised release, CI-skipping, GitHub Release, and tag-based deployment behavior.

Tests:

  • Make API and web changelog tests derive expected versions and release counts from package and changelog data.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Production deployments now trigger automatically from versioned package tags, while manual deployment options remain available.
    • Successful releases now create corresponding GitHub Releases with generated notes.
  • Bug Fixes

    • CI workflows avoid redundant runs for release commits and commits marked to skip CI.
    • CI validation now runs for pull requests.
    • Release and deployment automation now handles package tags and release metadata more reliably.
  • Documentation

    • Updated pipeline documentation to reflect tag-based releases and deployments.

Assert the newest release matches apps/api package.json version instead
of a fixed length so release commits do not break CI.

Reviewer's guide (collapsed on small PRs)

Reviewer's Guide

This PR makes the changelog controller test resilient by deriving assertions from the API package version instead of hardcoding the expected number of releases.

File-Level Changes

Change Details Files
Make the changelog controller spec assert against the current API package version rather than a fixed release count, and add a minimal guard that more than one release exists.
  • Import node:fs and node:path utilities to read package.json at test runtime.
  • Parse apps/api/package.json to obtain the current version string used in expectations.
  • Replace the brittle toHaveLength(22) assertion with a check that the latest release version equals the package.json version.
  • Keep the oldest release version assertion (0.1.0) and add an assertion ensuring there is more than one release.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Release automation now emits package tags, creates GitHub Releases, and triggers API, web, and marketing deployments from package-tag pushes. CI filters release and skip-CI commits. Tests and pipeline documentation reflect the updated workflow.

Changes

Release and deployment automation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Release tag publication
.github/workflows/release.yml, scripts/release-changed.mjs
The release script emits RELEASE_TAGS and marks release commits with [skip ci]. The release workflow creates GitHub Releases from those tags and filters automated commits.
Package-tag deployment triggers
.github/workflows/ci-*.yml, .github/workflows/deploy-*.yml
CI workflows filter release and skip-CI pushes. API, web, and marketing deployment workflows trigger from matching package tags and retain manual dispatch support.
Workflow validation and changelog alignment
scripts/release-changed.test.mjs, docs/pr-pipelines.md, apps/api/src/changelog/changelog.controller.spec.ts, apps/web/src/app/changelog/page.test.tsx
Tests validate tag-based deployment, GitHub Release behavior, and changelog data derived from package and fixture metadata. Documentation describes the updated pipeline.

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~25 minutes

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 4589a

Changelog tests still hard-code release versions, so future package or changelog updates could cause false test failures without affecting runtime behavior. The PR is mergeable with explicit owner follow-up to make all version assertions data-driven.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Remove the hard-coded oldest version.

The test derives oldest but still compares it with 0.1.0 and queries the same literal. When the oldest changelog release changes, this test fails without a rendering regression. Use oldest.version for both assertions.

Proposed fix
-    expect(oldest?.version).toBe('0.1.0');
-    expect(screen.getByText('Version 0.1.0')).toBeInTheDocument();
+    expect(oldest?.version).toBeDefined();
+    expect(screen.getByText(`Version ${oldest!.version}`)).toBeInTheDocument();
