expand text below graphs; uniformise break sizes

i'm opening these changes in a separate PR since they are a point of contention (and i'd like #59 to go in earlier).

changes

• uniformise breaks between sections, paragraphs (vbs, vbx2 instead of vbx3 or vbx4)

• let text go below graphs (see examples below)

@AkshayPall has good points though:

Not to diminish all this work but I personally dislike having the 2 columns text - it should be clear that text is always on the left to read and graphs on the second (ignoring mobile / narrow displays ofc).

Also, when the text spills across columns, it looks overwhelming and chaotic to me when surrounded by left exclusive or dual column text. Idk what the others' thoughts are on this though :/

Maybe there are some papers we can consult related to natural reading flow.

i don't know if it seems messier (it may), though it does reduce the white space we have below graphs that accompany long text

i hope that responds a bit as to why i did this :x
