Show file and message dialogs without blocking the frame (fixes macOS crash) - #1961
Fixes a crash on macOS: with File › Open showing, resizing the window or dragging a file over it aborts the app.
Report and cause
Reported on Discord (DesignCraft 0.13.0, macOS 27.0.1): the app crashes when you resize the window or drag a file over it while the Open window is showing.
DesignCraft showed rfd's blocking FileDialog and MessageDialog from inside the frame. On macOS -[NSSavePanel runModal] runs a nested event loop. A drag from Finder then runs NSCoreDragTrackingProc → runUntilDate, winit's queued event block fires inside the frame, and winit panics with tried to handle event while another event is currently being handled, which aborts the app.
Commands called with an explicit path (control channel, scripts, tests) stay synchronous. Only the "no path, so ask" branch is asynchronous, and it re-runs the same command with the picked path. Open and Place now accept path too.
The replace-file confirm in Save As is a sheet.
An answer for a document that has since closed is dropped with a status message.
Close › Save and Quit › Save wait for the Save As answer; Cancel stops the quit.
Choosing File › Open again while its panel is up raises that panel instead of opening a second one.
clippy.toml disallows rfd::FileDialog and rfd::MessageDialog, so a new blocking dialog fails clippy.
Web: craft-dialogs is native only. Open keeps using open_async and the inbox; other pickers on web report that they need a file picker (before, they did nothing).
Behaviour change: Library › New Library… now does nothing on Cancel. Before, it ran library.new with a null path.
Scripts and control-channel commands sent without a path return before the answer arrives (the dialog's answer re-runs the command later).
On web, Load Profile, Place with Options, Book Open and Library Open show "needs a file picker" instead of doing nothing, and Close/Quit Save goes through the download path.
Requests from different commands or documents that share a dialog (for example Place and Choose Image) queue separately. An answer that would replace an unrelated open dialog waits until it closes.
Dependency
craft-dialogs is pinned to storytold/craft-libs main at 1a11a489 (storytold/craft-libs#412, merged).
Testing
Owner's Mac test on macOS 15.7.9: dragging a file over the window and holding it with Open showing no longer crashes; Open is a free-standing panel; Save As is a sheet and saves.
New regression test: File › Open with no path, the dialog override answers, the document opens. The converted quit, save-folder, find-scope, PDF export, load-styles, shortcut-import and menu tests pass locally.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Native file dialogs now open asynchronously, with repeated requests brought to the existing dialog instead of creating duplicates.
Open dialogs offer filters for relevant file types. Save dialogs suggest a location and add the appropriate file extension when needed.
Save, export, import, relinking, and other file actions now use the app’s dialogs. Commands can also use a supplied file path or folder.
Bug Fixes
Canceling or failing a save during Quit or Close keeps the unsaved document open.
Browser file actions report when a picker or download is unavailable.
A blocking rfd dialog inside the egui frame runs AppKit's modal loop; a
file dragged from Finder and held over the window then re-enters winit's
handler and aborts the app. Dialogs now go through craft-dialogs: a
command without a path asks with a continuation and returns, the host
shows the dialog at the end of the frame, and the continuation runs with
the answer on a later frame, in the document it was asked for. Commands
given a path stay synchronous. The replace-file question is a message
box from the same queue. Quit and Close wait for a Save As dialog's
answer. clippy.toml disallows rfd::FileDialog and rfd::MessageDialog.

Walkthrough
The app replaces injected file-picker callbacks with shared dialog handling. Native requests use deferred callbacks, while browser workflows use asynchronous open and download services when available. File commands, panels, exports, quit, and document-close flows now use these paths.
Adds the craft-dialogs integration, app-managed dialog state, native filters, save-path handling, answer processing, and frame integration. Removes pick_open and pick_save from Services and disallows direct use of rfd dialogs.

File commands and panels request paths through app-managed dialogs or asynchronous open services. Callbacks process selected paths for opening, placing, importing, relinking, and loading profiles, libraries, scripts, and shortcuts.
Save and export workflows crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs/tests.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/menus/*, crates/ui-egui/src/panels/library.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/shortcuts_dialog.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/tests.rs
Save and export commands request destinations through deferred callbacks. Command descriptions document optional paths and package directories. Tests provide dialog answers through the app-managed dialog system.

Quit and document-close flows use save_then and wait for save completion. Quit approves a document only if it still exists and is clean; document close proceeds only after a successful save leaves it clean.

Before / after behavior
observed — Modified behavior in apps/designcraft-web/src/web.rs: Removed the pick_save callback from the web Services configuration; it previously returned the supplied name unchanged.
observed — Modified behavior in apps/designcraft/Cargo.toml: Added comments noting that craft-dialogs handles dialogs and that rfd’s default features keep Wayland support enabled for parented portal dialogs.
observed — Modified behavior in apps/designcraft/src/main.rs: App::ui now names and uses the eframe frame parameter rather than ignoring it.
observed — Modified behavior in apps/designcraft/src/main.rs: After rendering and the macOS IME handling, App::ui now invokes show_file_dialogs with the current frame.

⚠️Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Repin craft-dialogs to storytold/craft-libs before release.
The workspace depends on a personal fork (aiongg/craft-libs) at a fixed rev. The pin limits drift. A release build still takes its dialog layer from a repository outside the organization. The PR description already plans a repin after the linked craft-libs PR merges. Track that repin as a merge precondition.

…nd newer dialogs
Two asks for the same file dialog were treated as one, so Place for one
document and then Choose Image, or Place again for another document, ran
the first ask's action. An ask is now skipped (and the open panel
raised) only when the same code asked for the same dialog for the same
document. An answer that would replace an egui dialog opened since the
asking (an unsaved-changes question, Preferences) waits until it closes;
Quit counts it as pending.
…format
storytold#1961 replaced the blocking pick_save with ask_save (the answer runs on a
later frame) and removed services.pick_save. On top of that:
- app.saveDialog / app.saveCopyDialog / save_as_dialog suggest the
Save documents as extension instead of a hard-coded .designcraft.
- picked_save_path keeps a typed .idml or .designcraft and otherwise adds
the suggested one via with_save_extension, so "Brochure.idml" no longer
becomes "Brochure.idml.designcraft" and "Issue 3.1" saves as
"Issue 3.1.idml" with IDML chosen; the Replace? check now sees the
final path. Upstream's test asserting .idml.designcraft is updated.
- save_format_tests answer dialogs through answer_dialogs/settle_dialogs.

Keeps their resolution: the Save documents as extension is added where the save dialog's answer
is read (picked_save_path), so a typed .idml stays .idml with either format chosen.
